When we lived in Kirksville, MO after college, one of our favorite trails was a 10.5 mile trail at the nearest state park, Thousand Hills State Park. The gorgeous wooded trail wraps around the large Forest Lake. It features a rugged landscape but most of the trail is on flat land.
On this map, the trail is marked with an H. This map can be picked up at the visitor’s center at the entrance to the park or at the entrance to the trail. The trail can be very muddy because of the lake so it’s smart to wear boots. The end is 10.5 miles away so plan to hike a round trip or park a car at both ends. We decided to turn around after about 7 miles because of a tired puppy.
